The 2017 edition of Miss Ghana Beauty Pageant was officially launched on March 22 at Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture in Accra by the sector Minister, Madam Catherine Afeku.
This year’s pageant would be commemorated in accordance with Ghana 60 years on anniversary, to propel the role of a Ghanaian woman in an evolving society.
The Miss Ghana Beauty Pageant has been used to groom and train young ladies who have engaged in various developmental projects which have been beneficial to the country.
It was started by the first President of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in 1957 as an initiative to offer the “Independent” Ghanaian woman a platform to positively impact society.
Speaking at the Press Confab, Mr. Samuel Abu Jinapor who represented the President of Ghana said Government is committed to projecting the Ghanaian values through the Miss Ghana event as the country celebrates it’s 60 years anniversary.
“The President has endorsed this venture and is committed to make this dream a reality. After 60 years, we can take the opportunity to sell the Ghanaian brand and I would like to take this opportunity to appeal to private organisations and Corporate Ghana to come on board and help fund the project.
The Deputy Chief of Staff who also serves as the Vice Chairperson of the Planning Committee of Ghana 60 years on anniversary stated that Government will also champion the course of hosting this year’s (2017) Miss World in Accra.
“The Minister of Tourism and the organisers will be in charge of lobbying to make it happen. However, hosting Miss World involves a lot and if that could be attained, it will take the collective interest of all to make it successful. I want to implore all Ghanaians to come on board to make this celebration worthwhile,” he stated.
Launching this year’s Miss Ghana pageant, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Madam Catherine Afeku commended the organisers (Exclusive Events Ghana) and past beauty queens for their immense contribution towards promoting the Ghanaian heritage and urged them to continually use the brand to positively impact society.
“The symbolism of Miss Ghana Beauty Pageant synchronicity with the Ghana 60 years on to celebrate and promote what we have. We all believe that empowering the Ghanaian woman will help promote socio-political and economic development.”
Miss Inna Mariam Patty (Miss Ghana 2004), Chief Executive Officer of Exclusive Events Ghana, organisers of Miss Ghana Pageant was thankful to government for its involvement in building the Miss Ghana brand. She added that the event takes off in April and the grand finale in August.
Present at the launch were Ghana 60 years on Anniversary Chairman of the Media and Branding Sub-committee- Jefferson Sackey, Chief Director of Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Past Miss Ghana Beauty Queens/Mr. Ghana.
