Minority’s Boycott Unjustified – Kyei Mensah-Bonsu

The Majority leader Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has described as unjustified the Minority’s boycott of the Appointments Committee sittings on Wednesday.

According to him, the minority who claimed to be staging a boycott of sittings, turned up at the plenary of the House to partake in deliberations.

The Minority members on the Appointments Committee boycotted the activities of the committee over parliament’s failure to rise on Wednesday April 5.

The house reportedly could not rise as planned because President Akufo-Addo wants all his 54 deputy ministerial nominees to be vetted and approved before they rise.

Speaking to Starr News’ Parliamentary correspondent Ibrahim Alhassan, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said they are boycotting the activities of the committee because they feel the right thing is not being done.

He said the batch of deputy ministers that are being vetted currently were not supposed to be vetted until May.

Commenting on the development, the Suame MP told Starr News the minority is not being forthright over the issue.

“For them to say that we signaled that we are not going to be attending the appointment committee sitting, while at the same time attending the plenary; I’m at a lost.

“People are complaining that they are exhausted, but if indeed you’re exhausted and at the same time you do plenary work and say that you won’t do the work of the appointments committee, then I don’t think it is justified,” he said.
