Nana Kotei Kutin Sraman II during a courtesy call on him by President John Dramani Mahama, is reported to have endorsed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for Suame Brogya Genfi and President himself.

The legislature said the Breman chief is a card bearing Member of NDC who contested as the Parliamentary candidate for Bantama Constituency under the ticket of the NDC in 2000 with the name Stephen K Boateng.

Mr Kyei Mensah-Bonsu claims the chief called on the electorate to vote for the NDC candidate to wrestle the seat from him [Kyei Mensah] adding that the President constructed the roads in the constituency and that incumbent cannot claim ownership.

But speaking on Abusua FM’s Abusua Nkommo hosted by Kwame Adinkrah, he expressed shock over the pronouncements by the leader who is supposed to be neutral per his position.

The Minority leader bemoaned the incorrigible attitude of the Chief towards partisan politics.

‘As an individual I don’t have any problem, before becoming a Chief in private life, everybody knew he was an NDC member, he contested in NDC primaries in Bantama and lost so everybody knows that. But if you become a Chief, the expectation is that you do away with your past, Its very sad he cannot disassociate himself from politics, because he invited me to support his palace project, I donated 300 bags.

I was born and bred in Breman, he is my Chief so I try to accord him the needed respect. After this donation he requested additional cement and I also added 200 bags to make it 500 bags. Not knowing he had invited Brogya Genfi…he also said he gave 50 bags, but the chief surprised me with his comments at a durbar, he said he had accepted my 500 bags and went ahead to tell the crowd that Brogya has donated 50 bags when he had not even been voted, how can an elderly person take an entrench position?, I was surprised,’ he asked.

He said the chief is ignorant about political issues to state that the President gives out money for projects.

‘With all due respect, I am surprised and am ashamed, he does not understand politics, the President does not give money but Parliament approves,’ he said.

The Minority leader stated that there is nothing wrong for Nana Sraman II to embark on partisan politics by endorsing Brogya Genfi, maintaining the chief is an NDC member.

‘There is nothing wrong to endorse Brogya, because he is NDC but just that our constitution states that our traditional rulers are not supposed to engage in partisan politics. If you go on this tangent, one is tempted to speak ill against you,’ he explained.
