The ceremony saw several school children, members of the public; families and government officials inspect and have a feel of the accoutrements used by the military to protect the nation against external aggression and violent scenes in the country.

The Ashanti regional minister Simon Osei-Mensah who joined the ceremony had a feel of a ride in an armoured vehicle.

The regional minister also tried an amusement shooting expedition which he failed to hit all his range targets.

Speaking to the media after the tour, Mr Osei-Mensah described the experience as tiresome and unforgettable.

“Even when I had my hands on my knees, I was still shaking because it was my first time and also there was so much pressure. From the ride we had, you can just realize that the vehicles are not comfortable. So if you are using this vehicle to travel over hundred kilometres, you will be worn out and if you are not lucky, you will be feeling pains all over the body,” an exhausted regional minister narrated.

He further underscored the vital role the military plays in the development of the Ashanti region citing their contribution to controlling the “galamsey, armed robbery and Fulani herdsmen menace in the Ashanti region.”

The public relations officer of the headquarters of the central command captain Christiana Osei Duah was positive the Open Day ceremonies have helped bridge an important gab between the military and the civilian citizenry since its inception in the year 2002.

She told Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote – Fumador “The main aim of this program is to bring the public close to the military to let them know what the military actually does, and finally to foster civil military corporation and relations’.

Captain Christiana Osei added that the military in addition to their roles of protecting the country against external aggression, are contributing their quota in establishing schools, military hospitals and Medical reception Stations to educate and offer health care to both the military and the populace.

She added that her command is also committed to contributing soldiers to the joint Anti high way robbery, Anti galamsey and Anti lumbering task forces to ensure that the Ashanti, Eastern and Brong Ahafo Regions where they oversee, remain save places to reside.
