The Medical and Dental Council has closed down Obengfo Hospital with plans to completely evacuate patients currently undergoing treatment at the facility in the next couple of days.

Administrative Manager in charge of Investigations at the Medical Council, Bright Atsu-Fuglo, in the company of a SWAT team, put the body sculpting and plastic surgery facility under lock key.

The Weija-based hospital, whose plastic surgery section came under media scrutiny in June 2013 after Joy News’ investigation into complaints of deformation by some patients who had visited the plastic surgery section, Advance Body Sculpture Centre.

One of the patients alleged that after paying GH¢12,000 to get the fat out of her belly at the facility, the surgery instead deformed her abdomen.

The Medical and Dental Council looked into the allegations and concluded that the facility’s CEO Dr Dominic Obeng Andoh is not a certified surgeon and is, therefore, practising illegally.

However, Dr Obeng Andoh insists that he was trained in cosmetic surgery in Florida, the USA for two weeks and was awarded a certificate.

He said the lockdown was carried without a warrant.

He blames Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council, Dr Eli Atikpui, for spearheading scheme to frustrate his business.

“To think that the medical council come here without a court order, I find that very ridiculous; very inhumane,” he told Joy News during the lockdown.

He insists he has submitted relevant certificates to the Council to prove he is qualified to carry out the surgeries, but the Council has rejected the certificates.
