Tensions continue to rise in the Electoral Commission as elections draw close. Former AG Martin Amidu continues fighting EC, as he renews calls of a possible foul play in the commission’s handling of the disqualification case. Martin Amidu who is back with more allegations against the EC; has said that the EC is unfairly introducing new guidelines on the re-submission of nomination forms by disqualified presidential aspirants.

He argues that the Commission plans on still disqualifying political aspirants, in their bid to increase the NDC’s chances of winning the elections. Martin Amidu has continued to point accusing fingers at the Commission for their deliberate attempt to rig the election.

The former AG has released a statement titled, “The Electoral Commissioner Is Still Determined to Rig the Elections by Disqualifying All 13 Aspiring Candidates Again”, to bemoan the EC’s actions. Part of his statement reads:

Nduom and the others may rush to the Supreme Court again for interpretation of its decision of yesterday [Monday]. My worry is that, the Commissioner is still deliberately determined to rig the elections by disqualifying the 12 candidates, and is wagering on the fact that before the Court interprets its decision, there would be no further time left before the close of today 8th November 2016.

In his statement, Amidu feared that the Commissioner is determined to render unimportant, the decision and orders of the Supreme Court on technical grounds.

The former AG had earlier on November 3 alleged that the Commissions initial disqualification of 13 presidential aspirants, showed it is planning to rig the elections in favour of the incumbent NDC. Martin Amidu accused the EC of tampering with the values of democracy by disqualifying the candidates.
