Ace Kumawood actor Agya Koo, has revealed what he feels is the reason behind President John Mahama’s defeat in the just concluded elections on December 7. The popular comedian has said that the defeat of outgoing President Mahama, was caused by his communicators and campaign team.

The actor cum comedian, who is a known staunch supporter of the President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo and his party -the New patriotic Party (NPP), revealed this while speaking in an interview with Rainbow Radio.

Nana Addo polled over 53% of the votes cast to beat his contender -President Mahama who secured 44.40 of valid votes cast, in the just concluded election. The NPP also had an overwhelming majority on Parliament with 171 seats. President Mahama’s loss makes him the first incumbent to lose an election, since Ghana returned to multi-party democracy in 1992.

Agya Koo on Mahama’s defeat, has blamed the outgoing President’s campaign and communication team, for deviating from the sole objective of the campaign. According to him, instead of campaigning on a message to convince voters, Mahama’s campaign team rather devoted time in attacking and vilifying the President-elect.

He explained that the NPP focused their campaign on key policies of the party which they intend to actualize in their administration. Agya Koo during the interview, pointed out that the NPP promised job creation, a strong economy and many more; while the Mahama’s National Democratic Congress (NDC), attacked Nana Addo -the Flagbearer, who is now President-elect.

Speaking further, he said the NDC resorted to vote buying; sharing rice, money and other items instead of campaign on issues affecting Ghanaians and how to resolve them.

NDC supporters got the biggest shock on December 9, when Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei, declared Nana Addo winner of the elections. Being the leader of the ruling government, many had anticipated a win for outgoing President Mahama, considering he had incumbency advantage.
