Even though President John Dramani Mahama and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) say they are putting Ghanaians first, their actions belie that, Mr Boakye Agyarko, Policy Advisor to the flag bearer of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo has said.

“How many Ghanaians believe that President Mahama has put them first in the last four years?” he asked at a press conference in Accra on Monday, September 19. For him, the party is only focused on “lies meant to deceive Ghanaians” ahead of the 2016 general elections.

For Mr Agyarko, “It is evident that the John Mahama government is not one that can be trusted to put people first. A government that puts corruption first can only pay lip service to putting Ghanaians first.”

He said living conditions of Ghanaians had worsened under President Mahama, adding that the president had destroyed “every credibility he inherited” from late President John Atta Mills, making him unworthy to be trusted to continue to be in power.

The “future of another President Mahama government looks bleak”, he said, adding that it was time the electorate booted out the NDC.

He said Mr Mahama had made Ghanaians poorer. “It cannot be disputed that President John Mahama has made Ghanaians poorer. The prices of everyday items have skyrocketed under John Mahama,” Mr Boakye Agyarko told journalists.

“The price of a gallon of petrol has gone from GHS3 to GHS16, bread has moved from GHS2 to GHS7, milk from GHS1 to GHS3, kenkey from 30p to GHS2, fish from 50p to GHS2, sachet water from 5p to 20p, and a bag of cement from GHS12 to GHS32.”

He said: “It is evident that the John Mahama government is not one that can be trusted to put people first. A government that puts corruption first can only pay lip service to putting Ghanaians first.”
