“If anyone says President Mahama is misusing proceeds from cocoa and using it for politics, it is a lie,” he said in the Asunafo North constituency during his three-day campaign tour of the Brong Ahafo Region.

In his address to the teeming supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), he emphasised that the proceeds from the sale of cocoa were not being used for political purposes, but for the benefit of cocoa farmers.

He explained that a large chunk of the revenue is being used in the construction and rehabilitation of roads in cocoa-growing areas.

“The president said we should use a portion of proceeds from cocoa sales to develop roads leading to cocoa growing areas. That is what we have embarked on but the proceeds are not much, so in the past year we have completed some of the roads, we are still on the project, even after elections, if President Mahama wins. So it will get to all the areas,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the Kyidomhene of the Techiman Traditional Area, Oyadeayie Asa Akompani II, has endorsed the second term bid of President John Dramani Mahama.

He said President Mahama was performing well and must be allowed to continue.

“We are supporting him with prayers to continue his term and if he is re-elected, he should not forget this town,” he added.

Mr Ofosu Ampofo, the Director of Elections of the NDC, who accompanied Mr Amissah-Arthur, urged the electorate to vote against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, as he is due for retirement.
