The Minister of Communications, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has revealed that the total migration from analogue to digital television broadcasting which has been on under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will soon come to completion. He indicated that it is in the final stage of construction.

Dr Omane Boamah made this disclosure at the Meet the Press session in Accra on Monday.

The Communications Minister explained that the migration will give Ghanaians the opportunity to experience better picture and sound quality as well as more channels to watch. According to Dr Boamah, the government will give out one million digital boxes to Ghanaians across the country once the project is completed.

Ghana’s quest to migrate from analogue television broadcasting to digital is in its final stage of construction and we are finalizing processes to support our universal access obligation efforts by distributing one million set up boxes. This is because every citizen is entitled to the better picture, sound quality and interactivity that digital television broadcasting provides, Omane Boamah explained.

He stated specifically, that President Mahama is bringing DSTV to the homes of Ghanaians irrespective of their social or economic status.

Touting the NDC’s achievements, Dr Boamah debunked the opposition’s claim that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has collapsed under the Mahama-led administration. He pointed out that the programme has instead, witnessed significant progress in these first four years of President Mahama’s leadership.

Government few years ago commenced the process to switch television broadcasting platforms from analogue transmission to digital. However, the deadline for the completion of the project has severally been postponed.

In her bid to achieve the project, government has already approved 82 million dollars for infrastructure, and 25 million dollars for the procurement of the digital boxes. Ghanaians are hoping that this time around, government will keep her word and bring the migration to a total finish.
