Mahama Has No Campaign Message

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its presidential candidate and incumbent President of the Republic, HE John Dramani Mahama are vigorously on their campaign trail touting his [President Mahama’s] achievements in the bid to seek for re-election.

The message of the ruling government is hinged on changing lives, transforming Ghana. At the recent manifesto launch of the umbrella family, the President said, the manifesto’s thematic areas are putting people first, strong and resilient economy for job creation, expanding social and economic infrastructure, and transparent and accountable governance.

The NDC believed it had performed creditably in its first term in government, and the realization of the vision as captured by the 2016 manifesto would launch the country to accelerated growth and further enhance the living standards of the people.

But Political science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Richard Amoako Baah says, it has become difficult for the president to campaign because he has no message.

Speaking in an interview with Kwame Tutu on Rainbow Radio 87.5fm, the lecturer said, the president has under-performed and do not have any record to campaign on.

He posited that, the current administration has borrowed more but done less.

The president he said is frustrated because he is having a hard time to campaign. He said, ‘if indeed the president has performed as he claims, then he should not have any difficulty campaigning or to seek for re-election. But from what I see, I can say that, President Mahama is frustrated because he has no message.

You [President Mahama] were the Vice President for four years and now the president and so if indeed you have performed as you claim, it should be easy for you to campaign. You should have been able to point out to your so-called achievements.

What you [President Mahama] have done is abysmal. You have contracted so much loans yet you have done little with it.”

Dr. Richard Amoako Baah said, he was not being mischievous rather he was stating the facts. He went on to advice opposition political parties to be-careful with their promises so they do not fail Ghanaians when they assume office, like the NDC has done.

He also rubbished the ‘change is happening’ mantra by the NDC stating that, the situation in Ghana has grown from bad to worse and that, there was nothing currently working in the country.

”Where is the change; Is change really happening? Change is changing for the worse. Change is happening is that they [NDC] are saying; what change? Is getting worse.”
