Minister for Communications, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has claimed that President Mahama does not need the endorsement of former President Jerry John Rawlings to win the upcoming elections.

He siad the party is unfazed by reports that former President John Rawlings failed to endorse the candidature of President Mahama at the NDC campaign launch as the former President has never endorsed the President for any elections.

According to Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the founder’s decision not to support their candidate will not affect the ruling party’s chances of winning the December 7 General Elections.

He said on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Programme that prior to the 2012 elections, the founder failed to endorse President Mahama “but we won”.

“President Rawlings has never endorsed President Mahama so this is not new. We respect him as our founder but we will win the election without his endorsement,” the Communications Minister stressed.

The founder of the NDC, Jerry Rawlings at the launch of the party’s campaign in Cape Coast in the Central region failed to endorse the candidature of President Mahama who is seeking a second term in office.

In an uncharacteristically short speech at the launch, Mr. Rawlings did not mention Mahama’s name nor did he encourage Ghanaians to vote for him.

This has generated a lot of controversy in the country with many especially the opposition political parties describing it as a vote of no confidence in President Mahama.

He expressed shock at the way the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is blowing the issue out of proportion just for cheap political points.

According to him, Ghanaians has witnessed the massive infrastructure development that has gone on under President Mahama’s administration and hence would vote massively for him.

Dr. Omane Boamah urged the NPP to rather concentrate on uniting their front ahead of the December elections.
