The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed President Mahama’s assertion that the party is intolerant of dissenting views.

The President on Sunday accused the NPP of unnecessarily punishing NPP members who speak against issues within the party.

The President said the party is disunited and not in the position to govern the country.

He made the comment at the NDC’s campaign launch at Cape Coast in the Central Region.

But the Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Nana Obiri Boahene, in a direct response said the statement by the President is a “clear display of his ignorance of the NPP constitution.”

Obiri Boahene believes the President is only “advertising his crass ignorance and uncontrollable ignorance of the NPP’s constitution.”

He stressed that “ Nana Akufo Addo has never suspended any individual out of his own volition”, adding that “the suspensions came about as a result of the operation of the NPP’s constitution”

“The President can wallow in his ignorance. I do not begrudge him and I don’t think matured minds will begrudge him,” he added.

NPP specialized in suspensions

The President’s comment came a few minutes after the National Coordinator of the NDC’s campaign for the 2016 elections, who doubles as the party’s National Organizer, Kofi Adams, made similar comments at the same event, describing the NPP as a party specialized in divisions, confusion and suspensions among others.

He said the NPP does not deserve another term, since it has failed its primary test of holding a party together.

“….We see a party that is specialized in division, a party that is specialized in suspensions, a party that is specialized in contentions, a party that is specialized in confusion, a party that is specialized in division, a party that is specialized in contention, a party that is specialized in intimidation, a party that is specialized in ‘acidification’….We have to choose a leader who is steady and focused.

“A leader who your children and grandchildren will be proud to have as a President. Indeed, when you vote for John Dramani Mahama and the NDC candidates across the country, your children, I mean your grandchildren will bless you, they will bless you for taking the right decision that you did not plunge this country into confusion,” Kofi Adams said.
