Pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA), has mounted pressure on the Electoral Commission (EC) to come clear on the number of registered voters who did not vote in the just-ended December 7, polls.

At a press conference in Accra yesterday, Convener, David Asante, noted that about 15,712,499 Ghanaians were eligible to vote, but based on results from the 2016 presidential election, the voter turnout was 10,781,917 constituting 68.62% of registered voters which means about 5 million registered voters did not vote.

The development, he stressed, has informed LMVCA’s decision to demand from the EC, headed by Mrs. Charlotte Osei, to make public the over one-third number of registered voters who did not vote in the December 7, 2016 polls.

Meanwhile, the group has also congratulated the various presidential and parliamentary candidates together with their agents and political party supporters for the overall successful conduct of the elections.

According to him, the role of LMVCA in ensuring that the December 7, 2016 elections were credible cannot be overemphasised.

He mentioned that LMVCA scrutinised the entire electoral process and highlighted lapses, which could have potentially affected the credibility of the entire process.

LMVCA on September 15 2015, LMVCA marched through the principal streets of Accra to demand a new voters’ register.

He stated that although the peaceful protest was marred by the brute interference of persons purported to be from the security agencies, it had a significant impact on the electoral process.

“As a result of this demonstration, many Ghanaians were made aware of the inconsistencies in the voters’ register.

Subsequently, the EC constituted the VCRAC Crabbe Committee to probe into the calls for a new voters’ register and to streamline the electoral process” he stressed.
