Let’s Pray for NPP; Mahama Tells NDC Supporters

President John Dramani Mahama is rallying supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to pray for their bitter rivals, the NPP which has been enduring protracted internal wranglings.
Subtly attacking the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its internicine bickerings, the president said there was no room for acid attacks on fellow party people in the 21st century politics.
He was alluding to the acid attack that claimed the life of the Upper East Regional Chairman of the NPP, Adam Mahama earlier this year.
Referring to a more recent happening, Mahama also said the stabbing to death of NPP supporter Saddiq Abubakar at Asawase in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, equally has no place in Ghanaian politics.
Replying NPP Vice-Presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who has faulted the president’s handling of the economy, Mr. Mahama said, “those who say ‘Mahama’s administration is incompetent’ have not come close to the presidency before.”
President John Dramani assured supporters of the NDC that the party will win the Greater Accra region again in next year’s elections.
He said the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has not only done extremely well in government but is also solidly united.
“I have never seen the NDC more united than it is currently,” the president told thousands of supporters at a mini rally at Trade Fair in Accra. The rally crowns the president ‘Changing Lives, Transforming Ghana’ tours cross the country.
He said he would not be daunted by insults and personal attacks.
“I will not allow useless insults to distract me,” he stressed.
But the Deputy Director of Communications of the opposition New Patriotic Party is accusing the president of selective amnesia.
Anthony Karbo said the president cannot turn a blind eye to the violence in his party and make political capital of the violence in the NPP.
According to him, there have been reports of violence in Tepa where an NDC Constituency Chairman was stabbed by the Treasurer, voting materials were burnt by angry NDC youth and there were some violence as well in Ashaiman.
Whilst admitting that the violent deaths in the NPP were condemnable, he was quick to add that those were criminal offences and the police have taken over the cases.
Instead of making the violence in the NPP an issue, Anthony Karbo said the president must rather concentrate on fixing the economy, the high unemployment rate and the crippling power crisis in the country.
He accused the president of “stooping so low” in his comments about the NPP.
