The scholarship scheme that these students will benefit from, is part of a scheme that was started by the Lebanese community four years ago. Under the scheme, the tuition fees of the students, with accommodation is taken care of.

In his speech at the ceremony to present the scholarships, the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, HE Ali Halabi, reiterated his country’s commitment to boosting education in Ghana.

“This goes to prove the commitment of the Lebanese community to the development of education in this country. When we began the programme, we had a vision, and I am happy to note that, the vision is in progress. It is to impact lives, put smiles on the faces of these students and their families, and also propel them to greatness,” the Ambassador stated.

“As members of the Lebanese community, we are very much conscious of the invaluable nature of Law in our society. In fact, no one society can exist without a certain legal system.

We are also aware of the ever evolving Nature of Jurisprudence and as such, we are calling for modern, hands-on approach to teaching this very crucial programme, in order to embolden trainees to be competitive on the global scene.”

Kafui Quarshiga, one of the beneficiaries, thanked the Lebanese community in Ghana, and expressed the gratitude of the students for the opportunity that the scholarship programme has presented to them.

“I must add that, not only do we benefit from the scholarship funds, but some of us have also been sponsored to undertake French Classes at Alliance Francais.

Furthermore, through this relationship with the Lebanese Community in Ghana, we have been given the opportunity to undertake internships at the legal departments of Banks such as Stanbic Bank and Unibank.

This has made us more prepared for the job market.” The Lebanese community in Ghana, has since 2013, been presenting law students in the University of Ghana and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and communication students from the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

The first batch of students who benefited from the programme have completed their degree programmes, and are either pursuing their Master’s programmes or pursuing other academic dreams.
