Leaders Must Learn From Past Mistakes

A renowned playwright, Mr Ebo Whyte, has blamed some of the perennial challenges confronting the country on the failure of successive leaders to learn from the mistakes of the past.

“As a people we have not learnt from history, and keep repeating the mistakes that were made decades ago. We need to learn from these mistakes and begin to address issues appropriately in the interest of the country,” he added.

Mr Whyte made those observations at the launch of a book titled “Security in the Hand of God – My Amazing Testimony,” in Accra.

Authored by a former National Security Coordinator, Mr Kofi Bentum Quantson, the book highlights the political history of Ghana spanning the First Republic till date.

It further brings to the fore the exploits of the author in his security career.

Reviewing book

Mr Whyte, while reviewing the book, observed that the lack of commitment to the processes of national development ought to be reversed to ensure efficiency and increased productivity.

He further stated that it was when people changed their mindset and turned to God in all that they did that they would leave a lasting impact on society.

“Mr Quantson is a gift by God to the country. He has left giant footprints for the younger generation to follow. He hinged his work on the love of God and country, and this must be the way to go,” he added.

Digesting the book further, Mr Whyte lauded the effective written communication skills of the author, saying “the choice of words is impeccable; his writing style is conversational; and the depth of knowledge is overwhelming.”

Quantson eulogised

The Chairman of the National Peace Council (NPC), Most Rev. Professor Emmanuel Asante, lauded the initiative by the author to put his thoughts into a book.

He urged members of the public to put their skills and potential God had given them to productive use for the benefit of the community and humanity.

Describing Mr Quantson as a theologian, philosopher, God-fearing man, and a teacher, he urged him to continue to make his services and values available to the public.

Love for God and country

For his part, Mr Quantson observed that his decision to write the book had been inspired by “the love of God and country,” which, he said, ought to supercede ego, pride and parochial interests.

To buttress his call for sharing of knowledge and experiences, he remarked that “a sumptuous meal is only enjoyed best when it is shared with others.”

Mr Quantson stated further that the lack of patriotism and loyalty by citizens accounted for the development challenges in the country.

“Some of us are happy when calamity or trouble visits the country. We cannot develop with this kind of mentality,” he said.
