Kufuor Is the Worst President In History – NDC Regional Organiser

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s description of Ghana as a crisis state continue to attract criticism from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Joining the fray is the Greater Accra Regional Organizer of the NDC Anthony Nukpenu who questioned if the statesman has any locus to label present Ghana under John Dramani Mahama as crisis-ridden state.

The regional Organizer assessed ex-President Kufuor as the worst performing leader in the annals of Ghana’s democratic dispensation.

According to Anthony Nukpenu, if economic situations under Mr Kufuor were that glamorous, he would not have taken the decision to sell the country’s assets to defray costs and also pay wages.

“Where else will ex President be talking like that, saying Ghana is in crisis, what crisis is he talking about? He should not be the one saying all these when he is the worst president in history.

Things became so bad that he has to sell Ghana Telecom to pay salaries, even at the time he was about exiting. How can that person turn round and suggest that the country is now in crisis, which crisis?”

Anthony questioned on news and current affairs program Ghana Dadwen on Onua FM.

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor speaking at Prempeh College’s Pearson Osae Lectures in Accra noted that Ghana has been currently plunged into the kind of crisis that requires strong, visionary leaders with deeper understanding of modern global trends to turn the country’s deteriorating economic fortunes around.

According to President Kufuor, in spite of the fact that the country enjoyed a period of relative economic stability in the not-too-distant past, which made it an attractive destination for investors, the poor management of the economy, under the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress government, has resulted in a state of hopelessness.

But for Mr Anthony Nukpenu, the ex-President cannot in any way extricate himself from the current challenges since the root cause of what Mr Kufuor described as crisis is traceable to his regime.

“Mr Kufour and his people should accept that they have pushed as to where we are today, he is part of the problem. It was under his leadership that poultry production disintegrated. It was under his watch that pharmaceutical industry slumped so what is he saying?”

In his words it took sound policies and tenacity of President John Dramani Mahama to revive industries that went extinct under the erstwhile NPP regime, creating full scale employment.
