Krobo Chief Sends Away NDC Supporters Carrying Petition Against Nana

Nene Sakite II, paramount chief of the Odumase-Krobo Traditional Area in the Eastern Region, on Tuesday turned away some National Democratic Congress (NDC) sympathizers who reportedly went to his palace to present a petition against the New Patriotic Party presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo.

Some NDC sympathizers had allegedly been asked by the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency chairman of the party, David Walter, to stage a demonstration to welcome Nana Akufo-Addo to the area as he embarks on a regional tour.

The party supporters allegedly stormed the palace during a court sitting to petition him, but the Konor refused to accepted it and told them that he wouldn’t allow them to misbehave.

The NDC sympathizers, close to 50, were protesting over comments by NPP Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea, that Akyem instead of Somanya is the best place to build the region’s first public university.

The MP made the comments earlier this year when speaking on an Accra-based radio station, arguing that by the sheer number of residents in the Akyem area, the university should be in Akyem.

“If you measure the population strength of Somanya as against Akyem Abuakwa and the biggest paramountcy in the Eastern Region, logic alone should inform everybody that the best place to site a university for the Eastern Region should be in Abuakwa South, my constituency, and probably you partner with the Okyehene and have the university,” Mr. Atta Akyea stated.

When contacted by DAILY GUIDE, Nene Asada Ahor I, Public Relations Officer of the Odumase Traditional Council, expressed shock at the supposed protesters’ behaviour which he described as undemocratic and unfortunate.

“We the chiefs are not happy about what happened; we knew nothing about the demonstration, we are not happy about it at all. Nana Addo is welcomed to Krobo land. The Paramount chief is ready to receive him. There is no way we will ask any youth to do such undemocratic thing against the presidential candidate,” Nene Asada Ahor I stressed.
