On Wednesday, March 15, 2017, TV3’s Ashanti Regional correspondent, William Evans-Nkum, carried a news report on how innocent lives have been lost on the Odumase steep hill.

The half kilometer three-lane stretch had become a trap to many unsuspecting drivers.

In 2016, a total of 240 accidents were recorded on the Konongo stretch, most of which occurred on the Odumase steep.

The first quarter of 2017 has also recorded six accidents at the same spot, and each accident claimed a life.

In an interview with TV3, Konongo Divisional Police Commander Superintendent Ohene Boadi Bossman attributed some of the accidents to faulty trucks left unattended to in the middle of the highway.

With inadequate signage to caution motorists, other vehicles often ram into the broken down vehicles.

The Command now has two recovery trucks to tow faulty vehicles from the stretch, following TV3’s report.

“I thank TV3 for showing interest,” said an elated Commander Bossman. “The report you carried earned us the trucks.”

He was optimistic the availability of the trucks will curb the spate of accidents on the Konongo-Accra highway.
