Consumer Rights Advocate, Kofi Kapito has joined calls on Ghanaians to boycott Marwako Restaurant.
According to him, expatriates continue to abuse citizens because the security agencies treat them with kid gloves when they are found culpable.
Kofi Kapito call is in support of a campaign on social media by some human right activists following assault of a female staff of the restaurant by her supervisor.
The kitchen staffer, Evelyn Boakye, who works at the Abelenkpe branch of Marwako Fast Food Limited, had her face dipped into pepper paste by her boss Jihad Chaaban last week.
This inhumane treatment attracted widespread condemnation, especially on social media, leading to the creation of a hashtag #boycottMarwako.
Though the suspect, Jihad Thaabn, 26 said to be the brother-in-law of the owner of Marwako Restaurant has been charged with assault, Kofi Kapito said that is not enough.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, the Consumer Rights Advocate said the company much face stiffer sanctions.
He indicated that, the Marwako assault case should be a test case for all expatriates to desist from abusing their Ghanaian staff.
Kofi Kapito who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Consumer Protection Agency bemoaned how some security personnel obstruct justice by accepting money from the expatriates.
The only lesson for the management of Marwako, he maintained is for Ghanaians to stop patronizing their service.
