Kofi Adams Made Portuphy A Ceremonial Chairman

Some angry serial callers of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are blaming their 2016 Campaign Coordinator for their humiliating defeat in last year’s presidential and parliamentary polls.

They claimed Kofi Adams arrogated powers to himself and made himself a ‘tin god’ at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

Nana Akufo-Addo polled 5,716,026 votes cast representing 53.85% and President John Dramani Maham polled 4,713,277 votes representing 44.40%.

The results of the polls shocked many supporters of the governing party with some laying the blame squarely at the doorsteps of government officials for their “poor performance” whiles in government and “neglect” of the NDC grassroots supporters.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday, popular serial caller, Alhassan Bawsa said because Mr. Adams had all the logistics for the campaign, he began acting like the National Chairman of the party as well.

“Kofi Portuphy was just ceremonial chairman in the NDC. Kofi Adams took all the decision so he was like a tiger scaring any party member who comes to the headquarters away” he stated.

Alhassan Bawsa also claimed Kofi Adams at a point became the Communications Director, General Secretary and National Chairman and kept all campaign resources to himself to the deterrent of the party.

In support, another serial caller Majesty Mensah said the party’s National Organizer cannot absorb himself from blame.

He indicated that, if elections are held in the NDC today, all the current national executives with the exception of first vice chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo will be voted out.

Majesty also described as fruitless the Prof Kwesi Botchwey Committee set up to listen to the concerns of aggrieved party members nationwide.

“The work of the committee is useless because will all know why we lost. This is just to cool down tempers in the NDC but it is not the solution to the problem” he stated.

One the way forward, Majesty Mensah is calling for a total overhaul of the party’s leadership for a secured victory in the 2020 general elections.
