The Chief Executive Officer for the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication  (GIFEC) has stated the he has the aged people in the Cape Coast North Constituency at heart and has identified them as a priority as he  seeks to represent that constituency in parliament on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Kobby Akyeampong made the statement in an address during the official launch of his campaign at Abura Roman Park in Cape Coast.

According to Kobby Akyeampong, the aged have taken the responsibility of caring and upbringing of the younger ones thus need special care and support to survive.

“I have an area I intend to tackle and has to do with caring for our elderly ones, who are sitting in our homes and therefore doing all I can to get them on the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) scheme because they cared for we the younger ones and we also need to support them in their old age”.

The former deputy minister of state again told the teeming party supporters, who had gathered at the function, that he wants to take the mantle to help develop the Cape Coast North Constituency by representing them in Parliament to continue the work Ebo Barton-Odro, the outgoing Member of Parliament and the First Deputy Speaker, has done for the constituency.

He again announced that he intends to make women the coordinators of his campaign because they form the majority in most public places and have influence.

“I intend to make our women the major frontliners of our campaign because I believe you women have influence in so many things and again all those I am competing with for the December polls are all women,” he said.

The incumbent MP for the Cape Coast North, Ebo Barton-Odro, urged the NDC sympathizers to rally behind Kobby Akyeampong to lead the party to victory in the constituency.

According to him, he has done a lot for Cape Coast North and Kobby Akyeampong needs to be given the nod to keep the seat safe for more developments, adding the NPP is not a better option.

Deputy Education Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who was one of the speakers at the event, also recounted the achievement of the NDC government and urged the people to vote massively for Kobby Akyeampong and President John Mahama.

The Central Regional Chairman for the NDC, Ben Allotey Jacobs, also told the crowd to vote against the NPP.

Significant at the event was the pledge by contenders of the party’s primary in November, 2015 to support Kobby Akyeampong to win the December polls.

The main contender, Charles Kojo Walker, called on party faithfuls to settle all differences to rally behind Kobby Akyeampong.

“We all need to realize that a united front is what will lead to victory. So I am urging you to come together to support, that is why all of us who contested in the primaries are here to show that we are together to ensure victory for our brother and  President Mahama.”
