Judge Politicians By Their Records — Dr Nduom

The flag bearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has advised nurses to be wary of the big promises given by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) concerning their conditions of service.

Both the NDC and the NPP, he said, had no track record to show that they were capable of fulfilling their promises.

“Do not fall for President John Mahama’s promise to make the nursing profession better. Do not believe Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s promise to restore your allowance. Both of them cannot be trusted,” Dr Nduom said.

He said there was the need for the electorate to judge the politicians by their past records since it was the only way to determine who “is telling lies”.

“A PPP government will ensure that nurses receive a total package that will include salary adjustment and prompt payment, offering of better conditions of service for them and their families and an improved environment for them to perform efficiently,” Dr Nduom said when he spoke at the Jirapa Nursing Training College in the Upper West Region last Sunday.

He said his vision for the nursing profession went beyond restoring nurses training allowance, which “is the least of their problems.”

He said since the nursing profession in Ghana was faced by myriad of problems that had made many of them look for avenues to seek greener pastures, “A PPP government will offer a total package that will make the profession one of the best on the continent.”

According to him, only the PPP had the track record to show their credibility, adding, “All the promises outlined in the party’s policy statement will be executed when elected.”

“When I tell you we will do it, you must believe that PPP will do it,” Dr Nduom added.

Nduom ends tour in BA

Earlier, Dr Nduom last Saturday held two separate rallies at Techiman and Wenchi in the Brong Ahafo Region as part of his campaign to solicit for votes ahead of the December 7 polls.

More than 2,000 supporters of the party attended the rallies that were also used to introduce the parliamentary candidates of the two constituencies.

They were Ibrahim Kofi Marfo and Ibrahim Musah contesting for the Techiman-North and the Wenchi constituencies, respectively.

The two constituency seats are currently occupied by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr Alex Kyeremeh is holding the seat for the NDC in Techiman-North whereas Professor Gyan-Baffour occupies that of the NPP in Wenchi.

Transform Brong Ahafo

Outlining what he intended to do for the region should he win the December 7 polls, Dr Nduom said he would establish a cashew and yam chips factory to enhance the business activities in the region.

According to him, the absence of agro-processing facilities in the Brong-Ahafo Region was a major hindrance to its development.

Dr Nduom stated that his party “holds the key to unlocking the fortunes of the country in all sectors, especially agriculture and employment”.

He said if voted into power, the PPP would roll out well-structured interventions that would strengthen the economy of the country and make it a more robust one.

Dr Nduom, therefore, asked the people of Brong-Ahafo to give him the mandate so that he could implement his development plans.

Six-day tour

Dr Nduom is currently on a six-day tour to four regions. They are the Brong Ahafo, Upper West, Upper East, and Northern regions.

As part of his tour, the PPP flag bearer is expected to address the supporters of the party, interact with the clergy and launch the campaign of parliamentary candidates.

So far, Dr Nduom has enjoyed a rousing welcome by supporters of the party in the two regions he visited.

At the Nandom and Wa Central constituencies, more than 1,000 supporters welcomed him with an assurance to vote for him and the party’s parliamentary candidates.

In all the constituencies visited, Dr Nduom called on the people to show the National Democratic Congress (NDC) the exit for failing them.
