It had been a goalless game at first until the 62nd minute of the game. At 17th minute into the second half, Jordan Ayew latched onto a pass from Mubarak Wakaso, beat a defender and fired past the goalkeeper scoring the Black Stars opening goal.

The striker was driven to tears as he celebrated the goal with teammates, leaving a lot of fans wondering why he cried. But speaking in a post-match interview, Jordan Ayew disclosed that he felt uncontrollably emotional after netting the ball and could not hold back the tears.

He explained that as a kid, he had always dreamt of scoring in the big matches and felt he was living his dreams when he succeeded in sending the ball into the net in one of his most important outings. According to Ayew, “it is an important win for the players, the Coach, the FA and most importantly the people of Ghana”.

Continuing, Ayew Jnr. said that as a striker, you will always want to score but there are goals that are really very important that when you score them, you make team mates, officials, fans and the entire country extremely happy. And his Sunday goal against the Leopards was among such important goals.

Jordan Ayew received massive backlashes after Ghana’s opening match in the AFCON 2017 tournament. The Black Stars clash against the Cranes saw Jordan miss several scoring opportunities, getting fans displeased with him. But he, together with his elder brother who scored the only goal in the Ghana vs Uganda clash, were bent on shooting the Black Stars to victory in the Sunday match against the Leopards.

Although Paul-Jose Mpoku equalized Jordan Ayew’s goal 7 minutes later, the Black Stars were awarded a penalty in the 77th minute, when Christian Atsu was kicked down on the penalty box. Ayew Snr. seized the golden opportunity to convert the spot-kick, 2-1. That was how the Ayew brohers – Jordan and André grabbed 2 goals for Ghana in the Ghana vs DR Congo match.

The win qualified Ghana for the AFCON 2017 semi-finals. It also marks Ghana’s sixth consecutive AFCON semi-finals appearances, as they seek to end a harrowing 35-year wait for a continental title.

The DR Congo coach, Florent Ibenge has said that Ghana deserved her win against his team. Congratulating the Black Stars after the game, Mr. Ibenge said that Ghana came into the pitch strong and prepared to score, and according to him, they scored good goals after all. He also wished the Black Stars well as they go on in the tournament. Meanwhile, he said they [the Leopards] will have to go back to the drawing board having been eliminated from the tournament.

Ghana will face-off with Cameroon, who beat Senegal 5-4 on penalties, in second semi-final on Thursday. Although there are speculations that the match is going to be a tough one, the Black Stars are determined to go ahead and snatch the AFCON 2017 title.
