The National Democratic Congress invited popular Ghanaian dance hall musician, Shatta Wale, to help them keep the atmosphere alive during the NDC final rally held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday. Thousands of NDC supporters were at the rally ground for the event.

Addressing a numberless crowd of NDC supporters who gathered at the event, President John Mahama, who is vying for a second term touted his achievements so far in office. According to him, he has conspicuously improved the living conditions of Ghanaians and implemented promised social intervention programmes.

Mahama accused the major opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of deliberately painting a negative picture of the upcoming election by staging incidents and reporting false news to the international community. According to him, the NPP is preparing grounds to reject the election results if they lose come Wednesday.

Shatta Wale mounted the stage immediately after President Mahama was done with addressing the crowd of party supporters at the rally ground. The Kakai hit-maker performed two of his hit songs popularly used by the NDC in this year’s campaign rallies – Baby Chop Kiss and Mahama Paper.

Shatta Wale’s performance at the NDC final rally was such a vibrant one that President Mahama and several other NDC stalwarts who were all in high spirits danced away unrestricted. Shatta Wale also seized the opportunity to call on Ghanaians to ensure that peace is maintained during and after the polls.

Shatta Wale has refused to publicly declare support for any political party in the 2016 election. He has rather decided to busy himself with his Peace Campaign ahead of the polls.

However, rumours has been flying around that the dance hall musician is on the part of the ruling party. The Mahama Paper song has been perceived by many as an indirect endorsement of the NDC by Shatta Wale. But the dance hall king has refuted such claims, maintaining that he will not endorse any particular political party but will only perform for any party that calls on him for the general success of the coming elections.

Shatta Wale’s neutral stand and calls for peace and unity in this year’s electioneering has also been substantiated in his recently released single, Nana vs Mahama.

Both the NDC and the NPP have been using Shatta Wale’s song during their campaign activities. While the NDC love the ‘Mahama Paper’ song most, the NPP have chosen the ‘Kakai’ track as their favourite.

Flag bearers of the two political parties have also, at one time or  the other indicated their love and admiration for Shatta Wale and his songs. We can recall that President Mahama on different occasions said he likes the ‘Kakai’ and ‘Mahama Paper’ songs. Nana Addo has also declared publicly that he is a big fan of Shatta Wale and intends to come into power like ‘Kakai’!
