According to him, his current position makes it incumbent on him to ensure that the West African country scales through the polls unscathed.

“Indeed I have more to lose than any of the contenders. If chaos breaks out in Ghana I as President have more to lose. I have been involved in the politics of Ghana for many years. And my commitment to peaceful election is not in doubt,” Mr. Mahama noted at the signing of a peace accord in Accra .

Meanwhile, Most. Reverend Emmanuel Asante, Chairman of the National Peace Council has counseled presidential candidates to ensure that another peace accord is not signed ahead of the next elections in 2020.

According to Rev. Asante, the country must be matured enough by the next election to keep its peace with open commitments from candidates without going through the process of asking candidates to commit to peaceful elections.

All all seven presidential candidates including President John Mahama of the NDC, NPP’s Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, NDP’s Nana Konadu, PNC’s Edward Mahama, PPP’s Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, CPP’s Ivor Kobina Greenstreet and Independent candidate Jacob Osei Yerboah met at the Moevenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra to sign the peace accord.
