“I do come with some experience I think will help, having managed a department at the University of Ghana. I have had lots of managerial experience and worked as programmes coordinator for two big programmes,” she disclosed.

The 69-year-old development consultant has 40 years of experience as a labour and employment expert.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in home science from the University of Ghana and a master’s degree in foods, from the University of Guelph, Canada. She was a lecturer at the University of Ghana, Legon, from 1976-1982, consultant for the United Nations in the Women in Fisheries programme in countries such as Uganda, Ethiopia, Congo, Kenya, and Namibia.

She was also Deputy Minister for Manpower, Youth and Employment from 2005 to 2008 under the government of President John Agyekum Kufuor.

She was a two-term Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon and is married with four children.

According to her, “prior to my going to parliament I worked at ActionAid as the Country Director” and other NGOs.

With these qualifications and competences, she believes she will excel in the role that has previously been held by mostly men.

“So, in terms of managing people, strategy development and development work, which is all governance is about, I feel ready in terms of the all-round skills that I bring on board,” she told Joy FM on Wednesday, January 7, shortly after the official announcement of the list of appointees by President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo.
