Former President John Dramani Mahama has said that it is too early for the National Democratic (NDC) to be engrossed in a debate on the issue of who leads the party into 2020 general elections.

He entreated NDC members to work to reinvigorate the party at the grassroots and victory will be for them in the 2020 elections.

The former President Mahama said this during a brief remark at the funeral of a cousin Mr Abutu Johnny Walker at his hometown of Bole on Sunday March 26 2017.

He said that whatever God ordained cannot be changed and entreated the people Bole- Bamboi where he started his politics as a Member of Parliament (MP) to continue to be patient and also pray for him saying; “sometimes God delays good things to come on ones way”.

According to former President Mahama, the NDC will take a decision on who should lead the party into the 2020 election at the right time but for now members of the party should work to be strengthened at the base for the 2020 elections.

Former President Mahama was welcomed to Bole by an enthusiastic crowd of supporters and well wishers following an announcement that was made by Bole-based Nkilgi FM that he was in the town.

Earlier he stopped over at Busunu in the West Gonja District on his way from Tamale to Bole to offer prayers at the grave site of his mother Hajia Abiba Nnaba Suluwu.

The NDC has been sharply divided and engaged in media banter in recent times over who is to blame for its disgraceful 2016 electoral defeat.

There have also been calls from kinsmen and some leading members of the former president for his return in 2020 but the move has been resisted by others who maintain that he is not the best to win the party back power.
