It Will Be Easy To Defeat NPP In Any Debate – Kwesi Pratt

Veteran Journalist and Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr says the opposition side- the New Patriotic Party(NPP) could easily be floored in any debate following the pedestrian arguments they consistently make on economic issues.

Pratt said he fears the NPP may struggle to keep pace with good arguments in an encounter on any platform which in turn may expose the gap in knowledge of the opposition relating to the economic issues in the country.

“…So If there is a hesitation about participating in the debate as well, I can understand because many of the claims which have been made are shallow, they are not empirical and so on. And it is very easy to shatter them. And this may be the very reason why there have been some reluctance about participating in the debate.” Pratt said on Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji Saturday.

President John Dramani Mahama has thrown an open challenge again to opposition leader, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his running mate Dr. Mahammudu Bawumia to a debate on the economy.

According to him, this will give Ghanaians an opportunity to know the true state of the Ghanaian economy because his main contender and his running mate have been churning out a lot of misinformation about the country’s economy.

“If we have a one-on-one debate, we will all have our statistics and our figures and Ghanaians will be able to see who is telling the truth and who is not telling the truth.”

This comes after an earlier accusation by Mr. Mahama that Nana Akufo-Addo has always been running away from a one-on-one debate with him.

Commenting on Mr. Mahama’s call to a face off between him, and Nana Akufo-Addo on the economy, Kwesi Pratt said the essence of such debate won’t matter to the electorates’ choice with barely some 46 days to the elections.

According to him, such an encounter will only be a night of entertainment to Ghanaians and nothing else.

“…Be that as it may, I’m very confident that as at now the vast majority of our people have already made up their minds by who they are voting for and who they are voting against. I don’t believe that any such debate will substantially change anything. It will be good entertainment. It may change some things but it will not substantially change anything.”
