But the periphery is bedeviled with conflicts ranging from chieftaincy conflicts, land litigations to political tension.

The Minister of Interior, Prosper Bani, said the Region has the potential of terrorist attack according to security findings.

He has, therefore, tasked the security agencies to be more vigilant to complement the necessary National Security alert taken by government.

The Minister said this when he interacted with the Regional Election Task Force at the Regional Police Command in Tamale.

Mr. Bani said every election including that of advanced countries have some tensions and urged the Task Force to live to expectation to curb any form of violence.

He advised them to engage stakeholders in their preparation for the 2016 election.

The Inspector General of Police, John Kudalor, assured the Task Force that their request for logistics to ensure violence-free election is being taken care of.

The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah, complained that the Command has no adequate personnel to provide security for each District Chief Executive in the Region, saying that they are in deficit of 311 staff to provide the needed security for the election.

DCOP Yeboah said two police personnel will be stationed at identified flash points while one will provide security at peaceful area.

The Commander lamented that when police fail to provide security for the MMDCEs, it is accused of belonging to a particular political party.

He said transportation to send ballot boxes on time to election centers is a major problem pointing out that they rely on commandeer of vehicles from organizations and institutions by the Regional Coordinating Council whose drivers do not obey times given them.
