The President’s Advisor on Governance and Corruption, Daniel Batidam, says the recalling of parliamentarians to consider a motion to impeach President John Mahama for accepting a ford Expedition vehicle as a gift from a Burkinabe contractor is needless.

“This is a needless exercise especially when a state institution like CHRAJ is already investigating the matter”, he said.

He question why the minority legislators will be championing such a call when they are supposed to be at their respective constituencies canvassing for votes and outlining reasons why they should be retained or voted for.

According to him, it is a complete waste of state resources and time and a deliberate ploy to usurp the authorities of state institutions like the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) which has a constitutional right to investigate the matter.

Mr. Batidam told Lantam Papanko on the Ultimate Breakfast Show that Presidet Mahama has not violated any law in accepting the ford gift and therefore the impeachment process will not wash.

“This is just a needless attempt to waste public resources and undermine authority of CHRAJ”,

A summon by the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho directed MPs to return to the house on Thursday, September 1, but fell short of disclosing the agenda for the sitting.

However, Article 112 (3) of the Constitution says if 15 percent of MPs sign a petition, parliament must sit to consider it. The current parliament has 275 MPs with 148 (National Democratic Congress), 121 (New Patriotic Party), 3 (Independent), 1 (Convetion People’s Party) and 1(People’s National Convention).
