I Take Full Responsibility For NDC’s Defeat

The National Campaign coordinator for the John Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2016 election campaign, Kofi Adams has accepted responsibility for the humiliating loss of his party in the just-ended presidential and parliamentary polls.

The ruling government went into the December 7 elections with high expectations of winning with a landslide victory.

Several opinion polls conducted prior to the elections and comments made by ace political pundits predicted a “one touch victory” for the NDC.

However, the electorates showed the NDC the exit by handing over power to the main opposition leader, Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Ghana’s Electoral Commissioner, Madam Charlotte Osei, who also doubles as the Returning Officer for the presidential election results, Nana Akufo-Addo polled 5,716,026 votes cast representing 53.85% and President John Dramani Maham polled 4,713,277 votes representing 44.40%.

The results of the polls has shocked many supporters of the governing party with some putting the blame squarely on government officials for their “poor performance” whiles in government and “neglect” of the NDC grassroots supporters.

Some die-hard party faithful have also shifted the blame of the “unexpected” defeat of President Mahama to voter apathy and disunity within the NDC.

However, speaking in an interview with Radio Gold Samuel Eshun Monday, Mr. Kofi Adams, who is also the National Organizer of the NDC, took full responsibility for the party’s defeat and called for an end to the blame game.

“It was our wish that this party-NDC- was going to continue the great job it is doing but that did not happen and I personally take full responsibility for the defeat of our party and that of president Mahama,” Kofi Adams said.

When asked what in his opinion contributed to the loss of the NDC, Kofi Adams answered saying “I think there was a system failure,” insisting that the NDC had a “solid campaign strategy.”

The President-elect, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, is expected to be sworn in as the next president of the Republic of Ghana on January 7, 2017.
