According to President Mahama, serving as Ghana’s president was a tremendous privilege he will cherish for a long time and called on all Ghanaians to respect the will of the majority.

Prez Mahama was making his concessionary speech after the Electoral Commission declared Friday evening that New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo had won the polls.

“We’ve always recognised that we are all ultimately on the same side, the side of Ghana“.

“I pray that as we move forward even as we voice our differences and possibly even disagree on agendas and decisions and other details of governance, we must always keep in mind the fact that our shared destiny and the undeniable possibilities of our powers exist in our unity”.

According to President Mahama, he believed he did his bit and that posterity will judge his good works.

The president polled 4,713,277 votes representing 44.40%, with Nana Addo winning by 5,716,026 or 53.85%.

“I will leave it to history to be the judge of my time and contributions while in that highest office”, he said.

Mahama who spoke from his residence in Accra was joined by the vice president , his family and other party functionaries and congratulated president-elect Nana Akufo-Addo and said he remained committed to the development of the country and would do what it takes to help the in-coming government transition peacefully.

“I will like to assure the people of Ghana of my commitment to the sustenance of our country’s democracy and would work to ensure a peaceful and smooth transition to the in-coming administration”, he assured.

“We must do our part to ensure the progress of all our past governments from the very first one led by our founder, Dr Kwame Nkrumah to this most recent one that I have led continues because progress does not happen all at once.”

He expressed optimism for Ghana’s future and promised to remain committed to the political, social and economic development of the country.
