The Supreme Court by a unanimous decision ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana to allow all the disqualified candidates to rectify the anomalies on their nomination forms.

Majority of political parties have been complaining of an alert by the EC that lots of errors have been found on their nomination forms.

They complained that the EC disqualified them based on few mistakes only to turn round after Supreme Court’s ruling that they have additional mistakes to correct.

Speaking with host of Ultimate Breakfast Show Lantam Papanko, disqualified Presidential nominee of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) Dr Henry Lartey expressed disappointment over the conduct of the EC.

He bemoaned inconsistencies portrayed by the EC recalling that he was only told of four errors but now the mistakes have jumped to 25.

Dr Lartey threatened to sue the EC if it does not maintain the previous errors that characterised his forms.

Juxtaposing Ghana to the US, he wondered why presidential nominees go through challenges before they are allowed on the ballot paper.

‘There have been an addition of 25 more errors to be corrected. We are surprised, it’s amazing that they pulled a surprise on us. The previous one was about four errors and now 25 errors in addition. We are going to do our best to make it up to the deadline. Why the additions?. After the Supreme Court’s ruling, you bring in new additions which I found quite amazing. Others have 180, 150 additional mistakes to correct, can you imagine.

It’s amazing, I find it quite ridiculous, I can’t believe it, I don’t know whether the Court allowed them to bring in additions. Why do we spend so much monies before we are nominated, America after the primaries they go on the elections, is this the democracy we want,’ he asked.
