I Am Confident of One-Touch Victory – Mahama

“God is on our side and I am very confident that we will win a one-touch victory,” he said at separate rallies at Zuarungu, near Bolgatanga, and Shiega in the Talensi District to round-off his campaign tour of the region.

Describing his tour of the region as hugely successful, the President said it underlined the confidence the people had in his government.

On that score, he reassured the people of the region that his next term would see accelerated development of the Upper East Region.

Throughout the tour, the President was met by thousands of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters.

Criticisms

President Mahama sent a strong signal to his political opponents that his government would not be detracted by the barrage of baseless criticisms being levelled against it.

Rather, the focus would continue to be on massive investment in socio-economic infrastructure across the country.

He used the platforms to school his critics on the fact that when “you invest in infrastructure, it is no longer a debt but an investment that impacts positively on the various sectors of the economy.”

“When you provide roads, you are making it possible for farmers to be able to transport their foodstuff from their farms to the marketing centres. When you also provide potable water, your workforce would not be attacked by Guinea worm so they can work to produce more food for the country,” he further pointed out.

He observed that the government had gained momentum in its development agenda and so must be retained in power to do more.

He announced that the government was securing a Chinese facility to connect more communities to the national electricity grid.

Promises

President Mahama told the teeming supporters that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had a penchant for making promises they could not fulfill.

According to him, when the NPP got power in 2001, they said the NDC had left huge debts for them to pay and so what they promised could not be done.

He described as empty sloganeering the NPP’s “one-village-one-dam promises to the electorate.”

“If you know the Mahama-led administration has created debt, then why are you saying that when you come to power you will provide one-village-one-dam?” the President asked.

According to the President, “the destiny of this country is at stake “hence the electorate must vote massively for the NDC to retain power to continue to do its good work.”

President Mahama earlier inaugurated a multi-purpose party office at Zuarungu and also called on the Paramount Chief of the Tongo Traditional area, Tongo Rana Kubilsong Namalteng, to seek his blessings in his re-election bid.

The President also enumerated a number of projects, particularly in the road sector, that government intended to embark on in the area.
