Govt Is Secretly Recruiting Into Security Services – Osafo Marfo Alleges

The leader of the president-elect’s transition team, Mr. Yaw Osafo Marfo is suggesting that the government is not being opened with his side as he accuses it of recruiting personnel into the various security agencies without their knowledge.

He has therefore charged the government side to respect the “transparency and frankness” that they all agreed should guide the transitional process.

He was addressing the media in Accra on Wednesday as the transition team begins its work to ensure a smooth handing over of power from the National Democratic Congress-led government to a New Patriotic Party government that won the 2016 general elections.

“We have heard from the grapevine, a few things which have become our concern…for instance, we have heard about ongoing recruitment into the security services now, which we hope it is not true.

“We’ve heard of conversion of temporary staff of political assistance and some of the staff we took on into permanent public servants.

“We’ve heard of awards of new contracts after the elections resulst have been announced on the 9th December. We hear of procurement of sales and national assests also after the results. We do not want to believe these allegations are true.”

Mr. Osafo Marfo therefore appealed to both sides to ensure that everything is done through consultations.

But the Chief of Staff and leader of the government’s transition team, Julius Debrah however assured the other side that no action of the government would be hidden from them.

He hopes that as the country’s democratic credential keeps improving from time to time, this transition period would be one of the “smoothest transitions” if both sides apply the golden rule – transparency.

Mr. Debrah said almost all the handing over notes of the government are ready. For instance, the Finance, Lands, Transports, Chieftaincy, Food and Agriculture, Defence, and Interior ministries have their notes ready, he said, and assured that the rest would be ready by next week.
