Roads and Highways Minister Inusah Fuseini said government has a “consistent and elaborate program to finish the roads” they have started across the country.

Residents in parts of Ho Central in the Volta Region and Gbulung in the Northern Region-two of the major strongholds of the governing National Democratic Congress- have hit the streets in protest over poor roads.

The residents wielding placards and chanting war songs threatened to boycott the elections if their roads are not fixed.

For the Ho Central residents, their major headache have to do with the roads in Takla, Hodzo and Kpanoe areas.

They claim the roads are so bad and its affecting their economic activities.

Those in the Northern Region have pretty much the same stories to tell. On a red, dusty, Gbulung patch of road, the residents in their hundreds marched with placards some of which read “John Mahama stop sleeping,” ” Remember where you are coming from brother,” “No road, no vote.”

The residents together with those in the Volta Region stated emphatically that they will not vote in the upcoming elections if their roads remained the same. In a reaction Roads Minister Haruna Iddrisu told Joy News the Gbulung-Nyakpala road has been awarded on contract and will soon be constructed.

“There are plans to fix the roads in Ho. As I speak with you, we are dualising the roads in Ho. “We are working on the Ho Town roads,” he stated.

He reiterated that “government has made massive investments in roads but we still have more to do that is why we are seeking the mandate of the people.” “Government will tackle all the roads,” he promised.
