The facility, which cost 15 million dollars and completed in 18 months, was funded by the company from its own internally-generated resources.

Fitted with the latest modern environmental safety equipment and standards, it will enable the company to store and subsequently, supply marine gas oil at the Takoradi Port to fuel vessels that dock at place. Managing Director and Group CEO of GOIL, Patrick Akpe Akorli, commended several partners of the project including the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority and other stakeholders for their collaboration in the execution of the project.

He said there were several initial hiccups before the start of the project but managed to surpass those challenges.

GOIL’s internally-generated funds which was invested in the project, he said, is a testimony that Ghanaians can rise to the occasion to utilize its own resources for the benefit of the people.

Mr Akorli was sure the project will help revitalize the Takoradi Port and bring back economic activity to the twin-city, adding this will significantly benefit the country in terms of tax revenue.

Board Chairman of GOIL said the project will position the company as an important player in the bunkering sector and enable it to benefit from the huge trade in marine gas oil, 60 per cent of which is being done offshore

The Energy minister in a speech read on his behalf by his deputy, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, lauded GOIL for the pioneering role in the local content policy.
