Hakima El Haite, COP22 Special Envoy and Morocco’s Climate Champion, who made the call at a Youth Day event on Thursday at the ongoing COP22 in Marrakech, urged: “The youth today should spread your message…because maybe we are too old to re-imagine the world to change it.”

El Haite expressed happiness for the work of some of the youth for which they had won awards at the Film 4 Climate Awards project organized in 2015.

He reminded the young participants to remember what President Barak Obama said: “Yes, we can!”, when it comes to changing the environment for the better.

Richard Kinley, Deputy Executive Secretary of the UN climate change body, also reminded the world, saying: “The youth are the driving force for a sustainable future and that more work is still needed on climate action.”

UN Youth Envoy Ahmed Alhendawi advised the youth to “make noise” about the changes they wanted to see in climate policy and actions.

The official youth delegation YOUNGO of the UNFCCC hosted various activities including a Film 4 Climate Awards later in the day.

Three young people, Miss Kaia Rose, a film maker from New York; Miss Fouzia Bathloul, from Tunisia; and Master Phuong Vu Houng from Vietnam, were awarded for their contributions through video films to send the message of behavioral change towards the environment.

Other topics focused on the role the youth can play in implementing the Paris Agreement and for the future of climate action.
