The incumbent MP who is seeking reelection said the government has refocused the youth employment program and has made it more dynamic to employ many more of the country’s youth, particularly, those in his constituency.

He was speaking on Joy FM’s Ballot Box program, Friday.

The youth, opinion leaders, chiefs, MPs MP aspirants in Wa East, Wa West and Wa Central constituencies converged at Wechiau in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region to debate the teething issues which the residents consider important with only 48 days to go for the elections.

As part of the Ballot Box program, the residents in Wa West voted youth unemployment as their biggest challenge in the constituency which they want the next party to form a government in 2017 to resolve.

Their counterparts in Wa East found road infrastructure their biggest headache which they want solutions to.

Lined up before the residents of the three constituencies, the MPs as well as aspirants representing the various political parties had opportunities through the Ballot Box program to explain how they intend to solve the problems plaguing the communities.

The incumbent Wa Central MP Rashid Pelpuo said the next John Mahama government will focus its attention on building a strong and resilient economy to provide more jobs for the youth across the country which will have residual impact on the youth in his constituency.

He observed the slowdown in the economy is the reason for youth unemployment in the country and promised that government has taken steps to resolve the canker.

He said “job creation is a fundamental pillar in the manifesto of the NDC” and the hopefully the government will consolidate progress made in the next term of the government if retained in office.

The New Patriotic Party MP aspirant for Wa East Bayon Godfrey Tangu, said the NPP has a track record of providing jobs for youth in Ghana.

He said the youth employment program which is now the vehicle for the NDC was initiated by the NPP.

According to him, over 4,000 youth were employed under the program. He also mentioned tractor services which the NPP provided to farmers in his constituency in order for them to expand production.

He urged the electorate to vote massively for the NPP in the 2016 elections.
