According to him the video expose by ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has deepened this worry and damaged the image of the judiciary.

Akufo-Addo emphasised the need for the members of the legal profession and all stakeholders to be honest and fair in their endeavours without any form of influence.

“There is considerable concern within the Ghanaian people about the integrity of the judiciary. It was badly damaged a couple of years ago by a video expose put together by ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. Confidence in the judicial system of any country is necessary for a thriving democracy and economic growth and as such all of us including members of the bar and the bench have a duty to guard the integrity of the judicial system jealously.”

In 2015, the most incriminating undercover investigation in the judiciary was released by Anas Aremeyaw Anas indicting some high profiled judges.

The expose captured about thirty-four judges and was believed to have shaken the democratic foundations of the country.

Some of the Justices were found guilty whilst others were absolved of any wrong doing by a committee set up by the Chief Justice.

He made these remarks in a speech he delivered at the 10th anniversary requiem mass of the late Chief Justice George Kingsley Acquah.

President Akufo-Addo is respected as one of the finest legal brains in the history of the country.

The President in his speech was convinced that the the issue about integrity in the Judiciary was one that the late Chief Justice held dearly in his practice.

The late Chief Justice George Kingsley Acquah was appointed Chief Justice on 4 July 2003 until his death in 2007.

He was succeeded by the current Chief Justice, Georgina Wood.
