Ghanaian center official Joseph Odartei Lamptey has been handed a life ban by the world governing body of football, Fifa.
Lamptey received a Confederation of African Football (Caf) suspension last year after his penalty decision in a 2018 world cup qualifier gave South Africa a 2-1 win over Senegal.
In its decision communicated on Monday, March 20, Fifa’s Disciplinary Committee said Mr Lamptey was found guilty of breaching Article 69 of the Fifa Disciplinary Code.
He is not to take part in “any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) at national and international level for life”.
Coincidentally, referee Lamptey was the Fourth Official in Hearts of Oak’s 1-0 win over archrivals Asante Kotoko on Sunday, a match which has stirred controversy as a result of the penalty awarded the Phobians.
Separately, all charges against assistant referee David Laryea were dismissed.
He was Assistant Referee 1 for the November 12, 2016 world cup qualifier played at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, South Africa.
