Businessman, Alfred Woyome is confident the state will pay him a lot more cedis, if the court brings finality to the controversial GHS 51.2 million judgment debt case he’s been contending with in court for many years.
“I’m envisaging that before this case ends Ghana is going to pay a lot of money to me, but I will respect the Supreme court ,” he told a Press conference in Accra Friday, November 18, 2016.
Contrary to claims that he’s scheming in connivance with government to escape the re-payment of the GHS51.2 million, Mr. Woyome said he rather believes there are some cabal within the opposition who are working through the former AG, Martin Amidu to frustrate his effort to pay back the monies in peace.
He said eventhough justice has been denied him in this case, he’s ready to pay back the money in a structured payment plan.
“Who does not want me to pay this money?I will not be down. I’m a genuine businessman;I have never taken bribe before. You have anybody who says he has given me any bribe, let me know.” Woyome stressed.
Alfred Woyome was paid ¢51 million after he claimed that he helped Ghana to raise funds to construct stadia for purposes of hosting the CAN 2008 Nations Cup.
However an Auditor General’s report released in 2010, said the amount was paid to him illegally and subsequently a Supreme Court in 2014 ordered Mr. Woyome to pay back the money after Mr. Martin Amidu challenged the legality of the payments in court.
Meanwhile, Former AG, Amidu has admonished Ghanaians to vote out President John Mahama on December 7 else the state will struggle to get Woyome pay back the huge sums of money.
Amidu, has been permitted by the Supreme Court to orally examine Mr. Woyome on his repayment plan by November 24.
