The Ghana Police Service has given the assurance that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure maximum security during Saturday’s parliamentary and presidential primaries of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The NDC will on Saturday November 21 elect parliamentary and presidential primaries to contest national multi-party elections in 2016.
The primaries were originally scheduled to be held on Saturday, November 7 across the 275 constituencies, however, the NDC National Executive Committee later decided to postpone it to November 21.
Speaking Wednesday on Adom Fm’s Burning Issues programme with Afia Pokua Director-General of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, DCOP David Nenyi Ampah-Bennin says all the necessary measures are in place to ensure smooth elections.
He stated that the police service is deploying 7,000 police personnel across the country to supervise the elections to ensure safety and peace.
He warned “persons who intend to cause trouble at the ruling National Democratic Congress parliamentary and presidential primaries to desist because those who will be arrested will be prosecuted.”
DCOP Ampah-Bennin also urged members of the party to cooperate with the police to ensure peaceful and successful elections.
Director of Elections at the Electoral Commission (EC), Samuel Tettey says the commission is ready to supervise the elections on Saturday.
He noted that the EC and the NDC’s election committee have met severally to ensure smooth, transparency and peaceful elections across the country.
Samuel Tettey stated that all the necessary equipment are already in the district offices of the commission which he is optimistic that it’s enough for the exercise.
