President Nana Addo recently appointed some 25 persons as Ministers-designate, whom will serve in his government. Some of them include; Monitoring and Evaluation Minister-designate, Dr Anthony Osei Akoto, Member of Parliament (MP) for Okere, Dan Kwaku Botwe as Regional Re-organisation Minister-designate, and Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister-designate, Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, to mention a few. During his announcement, the newly elected President, revealed some changes which have been made in his government. President Nana Addo announced the merging of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Petroleum and appointed former Finance Minister Osarfo Marfo, to head the Ministry.

The President also announced the creation of three new ministries namely; the Monitoring and Evaluation Ministry, Railways Development Ministry and Regional Re-organisation Ministry. Nana Addo said the Minister-designate for Regional Re-organisation would work on the creation of new regions, which he promised Ghanaians during the 2016 campaign.

But Franklin Cudjoe deems unnecessary, the addition of more Ministries in government. Speaking to Joy News, IMANI’s Cudjoe described government’s addition of the new ministries as a drain on Ghana’s resources. He pointed out that the major problem of the nation is lack of resources and not structures

Mr. Cudjoe during the interaction, singled out Ministry of Transport, Ministry for Railways Development and Ministry for Roads and Highways and described them as “a festival of Ministries for a single monolithic entity.”

On the creation of more regions, Mr. Cudjoe explained that the Local Government Ministry could be assigned the responsibility of getting the work done, rather than a new Ministry. The IMANI boss pointed out that what the country needs is more resources and not structures.

Franklin Cudjoe, raised calls for conservation and frugality on the part of the new government.
