The issue has become topical after the Delta Force of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) attacked the Ashanti Regional Security Liaison Officer George Adjei in protest of his appointment.

Videos show a horrifying episode of a gang who drove into the premises of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in five buses.

The group pulled the Security Coordinator out of his office, manhandled, dragged him down the stairs and vandalized his office in the most brutish of scenes.

His crime was that the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had appointed him against the wish of the group which claims to have suggested their preferred appointee for the position of Ashanti regional security liaison officer.

The Ashanti regional police command has indicated that it has arrested two of the members including the ring leader with three others turning themselves in after the police launched a manhunt for the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

This will not be the first time the country has had to endure the violent attacks of vigilante groups including the Bamba Boys, Azoka Boys, Invisible Forces, Kandahar boys, Bolga Bull Dogs, Action Troopers and a host of other set up by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to serve as independent security detail for party activities.

Convenor of Youth for Working Ghana Counsellor Albert Krampah expressed worry the presence of these groups is recipe for terror and rebel activities.

“We all know how Boko Haram and other terror groups begun in other countries. Let’s not forget about unemployment rate in the country. Members of these groups have brothers and sisters who are at home doing nothing. If they are going somewhere and they invite their brothers and sisters to also join, then you can see that the forces are increasing and the country is heading for trouble,” he expressed fear.

“Very soon, we will hear people joining these forces and vigilante groups and add up to do things that we will not even like,” he noted with concern.

In an interview with Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote- Fumador Counsellor Krampah strongly recommended that leadership in the country and the relevant security forces combine efforts to stamp out these groupings before they get out of hand.

“We recommend that the authorities should rise up to speak against this. The security forces should also play their roles well before we begin to experience any Boko Haram in this country,’ he advised.

He warned that youth in the country risk exploitation if this trend is not stopped.
