The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Dayi, George Loh, says he strongly suspects supporters of Nii Noi Nortey to be behind the stoning of the 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The opposition leader while on campaign platform interacting with electorates of Osu Ashante Blohum in the Korle Klottey constituency on Thursday came under attack when some unknown assailants pelted him with stones.

Following the incident, a cross section of Ghanaians has condemned the act, with some putting the blame at the doorsteps of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Some political analysts say the dastardly act was an attempt to mar the campaign tour of Akufo-Addo and the NPP in the Korle Klottey constituency in order to paint a gloomy picture to the public that the constituency was still not at peace with the elephant family.

The North Dayi legislator contributing to a discussion on TV 3’s New Day on Saturday over incident said he wasn’t surprise the opposition leader was subjected to such an ordeal looking at the challenges confronting the elephant family in the Korle Klottey constituency.

“I am not surprise because the NPP is facing some challenges in the Korle Klottey constituency. One of their members, Nii Noi is going independent and I suspect the act may have come from his camp,” he noted.

Nevertheless, he strongly condemned the act in no uncertain terms, noting that violence should not be a tool to express one’s anger.

“We have the right to express our anger but to throw a missile, we shouldn’t encourage it. It is not good for our democracy. We should jaw-jaw whenever we feel aggrieved,” he added.
