The Central Regional Director of the EC, Mrs Philomena Adusei, explained that the list of voters given to the EC in the region for instance had some names of electorates who were to vote in other regions.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has said that it has identified some inconsistencies in the list of special voters which could disenfranchise some voters.

This was revealed by the Central Regional Director of the EC, Mrs Philomena Adusei.

She explained that the list of voters given to the EC in the region for instance had some names of electorates who were to vote in other regions.

She said there will be consequences for voters whose names have appeared in the special voting list in a different region instead of where they are expected to vote.

“If you don’t find your name in the region where you are, on the day of special voting, you can’t vote and you cannot also vote in the main election because your name will not be in the register,” she pointed out.

Mrs Adusei was speaking at a meeting at the Central Regional Coordinating Council in Cape Coast on Thursday.

Mrs Adusei said most of the people whose names are on the list are security personnel.

She explained that the error might have occurred because the security agencies might not have indicated where each voter would vote.

She said the EC had reached some of the affected voters to rectify the situation but “some could not be reached.”

Mrs Adusei pleaded that the heads of the security agencies collaborate with the EC in Accra to help resolve all such discrepancies before the special voting day since they have only two weeks for these corrections to be made.
