Election 2016: Change Is Inevitable

A leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Yoofi Grant has warned Ghana cannot be under the watch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the next four years.

According to him, “change is inevitable” come December 7 – when Ghana goes to the polls to elect a new president and parliamentarians in a seventh election under the Fourth Republic.

Speaking on the Morning Starr Monday with Nii Arday Clegg Jnr, Mr. Grant said the economy has “collapsed” under President John Mahama and the best way to keep the West African country back on track is to “change him.”

He argued when Ghana was not enjoying oil revenue under the John Kufuor administration, the economy was stable and recording “massive growth”, however, the situation has changed under the ruling NDC even with oil money in abundance.

“Ghana has become riskier as a borrower because in 2008 we were rated B but now we have slipped to B-,” Mr. Grant said.

Meanwhile, President Mahama has touted the achievement of his government, saying the recent positive rating by Moody’s is a clear indication that his administration is on track.

“Our country is respected in the international community and everybody recognizes that. Ghana is rising, Ghana is doing well. In my absence we were pleased to hear that Moody’s credit rating agency has upgraded Ghana, it shows that we are doing something right and we are pleased about the way things are happening. Let us continue to work together as one nation, lets believe in ourselves and I believe that, more than the sky is the limit,” Mahama said recently.
